FHSU Cottonwood Festival

Date: January 27, 2018, 7:00 PM
Venue: FHSU Beach-Schmidt Performing Arts Center - 600 Park Street
Sponsor: FHSU Department of Music and Theatre

The Event:

The evening's program: Elgar’s Serenade for Strings, Elgar’s Piano Quintet, Schoenberg’s Transfigured Night (Verklarte Nacht) Artists: Veronique Mathieu, violin; Evgeny Zvonnikov, violin; Rodolf Haken, viola; Shah Sadikov, viola; Daniel Veis, cello; Ben Cline, cello; Irena Ravitskaya, piano An intimate evening of string chamber music awaits in this concert featuring two pieces by English composer Edward Elgar. The Serenade is light and youthful, calling to mind sunny English ballads. By contrast, the Quintet is late Romantic, a dark and fitful dream. The program rounds out with one of Schoenberg’s most popular works, his 1899 string sextet, Transfigured Night, inspired by Richard Dehmel’s poem of the same name. Pre-concert talk with Shah Sadikov and Ben Cline, 7pm.
