Prairie Pollinator Party

Date: September 15, 2018,
Venue: Great Plains Nature Center - 6232 E. 29th St. N., Wichita

The Event:

Join us for a day of fun featuring our state insect, the honey bee, and all its many buzzin’ cousins who help pollinate plants! We'll have bee films in the Coleman Auditorium and lots of fun crafts and activities both inside and outside.

For a small charge visitors can make their own beeswax candle to take home or enjoy ice cream sundaes that illustrate how vital pollinators are for our food production. Taste a variety of honeys and honey products, which will be for sale in the Owls’ Nest gift shop and from local beekeepers.

Free seed packets will be available to grow pollinator-attracting flowers in home gardens and provide habitat for local pollinators.

At 11 a.m., GPNC Director Jim Mason will give a program on the migration of the Monarch butterfly. Afterwards, we will be tagging monarch butterflies at noon, 1:00 and 2:00 to help scientists learn more about their remarkable annual migration to central Mexico.
