ARTIFACT COLLECTORS’ IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOP

Date: September 22, 2018, 10:00 AM
Venue: Marion City Library - 101 Library St
Sponsor: Kansas Anthopological Association

The Event:

The Mud Creek chapter of the Kansas Anthropological Association (KAA) will host its annual Artifact Identification Workshop on Saturday, September 22, in the city of Marion. This is the second year in a row to meet at Marion, as there was a great response in 2017 and many indicated they wished for a prompt return. The event will take place in the Santa Fe Room of the Marion City Library, 101 Library Street. (This is one block south of the courthouse.) Hours for the event will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interested persons from the central Kansas area may drop by the library and speak with professional archeologists. Well-experienced amateur archeologists from the KAA will also be available. Collectors can bring Native American artifacts or early historic period items throughout the event for assistance in identification and dating. Helpful suggestions will also be made for cataloging and collection maintenance. No appraisals or sales will be made. This is a free public service to improve knowledge of our state’s archeological heritage. The public is encouraged to visit this event. Visitors may come and go as is convenient for them. Light refreshments will be served.
