The Event:

The Coutts Museum of Art is excited to announce Generations: The Art of Max, Ward, and Maeve Hilgers. Generations will be on exhibit on the 3rd floor of CMA for six weeks. “Art has the power to transform, to illuminate, to educate, inspire, and motivate.” – Harvey Fierstein This quote speaks to this three generational Kansas-based family. All three (grandfather, father, and daughter) are not only artists, but all three have also pursued or are pursuing art education; educating, inspiring, and motivating students as well as others they touch with their art. Max taught high school art at F.L. Schaegle High School in Kansas City for 35 years! Ward Hilgers is the high school art teacher at Rose Hill, where he has taught for 31 years. And Maeve, is currently attending the University of Kansas where she is studying art education. “I feel extremely lucky to have had Ward was my art teacher through Middle School and High School. I remember the intricacy of his colored pencil drawings and the precision of his ceramics. His influence on me is one of the reasons I pursued a B.F.A. I’m excited to see his more recent works, and the works of his father and daughter,” says Executive Director of CMA, Tim Howard. The Coutts Museum of Art is a 501(c)3 Not for Profit Museum. CMA is open Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturdays Noon to 4:00 PM.
