Venue: The Coutts Museum of Art - 110 N. Main St.

The Event:

El Dorado, KS, Thursday, September 20 to Friday, November 9 – The Coutts Museum of Art (CMA) is proud to announce the opening of Prints of the Prairie: Herschel Logan’s Kansas. 30 of Logan’s prints will be on display at the CMA for two months. Born in Missouri in 1901 and Raised in Winfield, Kansas, Herschel Logan was the youngest founding member of the Prairie Printmakers, which was formed in 1930. Logan’s subject matter focuses on rural Kansas. His work varies from showing peaceful farmhouses set under an open sky to the power of destructive nature in the prairie. All works on display are woodblock prints. These are created by carving an image into a block of wood, and then running it through a press, leaving the raised sections the chosen color, and the carved sections white. These pieces are on loan to CMA from private collector Stephen Funk, Past President of the board of CMA. Funk’s interest in Logan prints began while visiting a friend’s collection of Prairie Print Maker works. Among that collection was a Logan print, and Funk has been collecting since that day. The Coutts Museum of Art is a 501(c)3 Not for Profit Museum. CMA is open Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturdays Noon to 4:00 PM.
