Britten's War Requiem

Date: November 10, 2018 to November 11, 2018,
Venue: Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center - 225 W. Douglas Ave., Wichita
Sponsor: Wichita Symphony Orchestra

The Event:

BRITTEN War Requiem
in honor of Veterans Day and in memory of the 100th Anniversary of the WWI Armistice

What's interesting about these concerts'

Powerful Words from the Battlefield
The chorus text for this powerful piece comes from Wilfred Owen, a soldier and poet who died in battle one week before WWI ended. Britten used nine of Owen’s poems from the trenches to depict the tragedy of war.

A Larger-Than-Life Orchestra
Although this piece is powerful and loved, the manpower it takes to perform the piece is so great that it rarely gets to shine in a live performance. On stage you'll see a full orchestra, a smaller chamber orchestra, full chorus, a children's chorus, and three soloists.
