2019 Kansas Day Celebration

The Event:

Celebrate Kansas Day at the Kauffman Museum on Jan. 26 in North Newton The 2019 theme is "Collectors, Collecting, Collections." Admission is free.

At 11 a.m., Keil Hileman will present "Pieces of the Past" a hands-on Kansas history lesson, in the Luyken Fine Arts Center on the Bethel College campus.

Food vendors will serve from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Kauffman Museum parking lot.

Activities in and around the Kauffman Museum will be offered from 1-4 p.m. A variety of collections will be on display along with a tractor, truck and car show.

Indoor activities, crafts, and demonstrations will include book making, quilt craft, Play dough table, robot craft, Duplo play station and name that artifact.

Outdoor activities will feature a pedal tractor race course, Native American tee pee, restored band organ, blacksmith Bill Moffet, woodsmen, branding station, rope making, corn shelling, popcorn popping, wagon rides by Country Boys Carriage, old-fashioned schoolyard games, and a heated and restored farmhouse.

Programs will be offered in the museum auditorium each hour. Karen Schlabuaugh will present "Quirky to Sublime: Unique Musical Treasures from Kauffman Museum" at 1:15 p.m.. At 2:15 p.m., Ray Olias will present "Sci-Fi Enthusiast and Collector." At 3:15 p.m., will be "Stump the Chumps Antique Edition" with Rachel Pannabecker and Jerry and Leann Toews. Attendees may bring an antique for the experts to identify -- try to fool them, or bring something you'd like to learn more about.

The celebration will also include a bake sale and silent auction of antiques and collectibles.
