Salina Poetry Series

The Event:

Traci Brimhall will be the second poet to read for the 2019 Salina Poetry Series. The reading will be at 7 p.m. April 9 in Salina Public Library’s Prescott Room. General admission to the poetry series is $5 and $3.50 for students. A reception will follow the reading at SPARK Artist Resource Exchange, 146 S. Santa Fe, with refreshments provided by Friends of the Salina Public Library. Brimhall is the author of “Saudade” (Copper Canyon, 2017), “Our Lady of the Ruins” (W.W. Norton, 2012), and “Rookery” (Southern Illinois University Press, 2010), as well as “Come the Slumberless to the Land of Nod” (forthcoming Copper Canyon, 2020). Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, Slate, Poetry, The Believer, The New Republic, and Best American Poetry. A 2013 NEA Fellow, she’s currently an associate professor of creative writing at Kansas State University. A performance by singer Alex Cosco and guitarist Ben James, of Salina, will precede the reading. Traci will be introduced by Salina poet Emery Diercks. The Spring Poetry Series is sponsored by Salina Public Library, Salina Arts and Humanities and SPARK Artist Resource Exchange. The series celebrates National Poetry Month with a poet performance every Tuesday in April. Upcoming poets are Melissa Lozada-Oliva on April 16, Meghann Plunkett on April 23, and Jen Harris and Emery Diercks on April 30.
