Salina Poetry Series

The Event:

The 2019 Salina Poetry Series will feature its fourth poet, Meghann Plunkett, at 7 p.m. April 23 in the Prescott Room at Salina Public Library. General admission to the poetry series is $5 and $3.50 for students. A reception will follow the reading at SPARK Artist Resource Exchange, 146 S. Santa Fe, with refreshments provided by Friends of the Salina Public Library. Plunkett is a poet, coder and dog enthusiast. She was named a Best New Poet of 2018 and was the winner of the 2017 Missouri Review’s Editors’ Prize and the 2017 Third Coast Poetry Prize. She has also been anthologized in the 2017 Best of Net Anthology selected by Eduardo C. Corral. Plunkett holds an MFA from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where she was recognized by the Academy of American Poets in 2016 and 2017. She holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College. She is a writer in residence at Omega Institution and serves as a poetry reader for The Adroit Journal. A performance by songwriter and guitarist Anita Chase, of Salina, will precede the reading. Meghann will be introduced by Lindsborg poet Jackie Ash. The Spring Poetry Series is sponsored by Salina Public Library, Salina Arts and Humanities and SPARK Artist Resource Exchange. The series celebrates National Poetry Month with a poet performance every Tuesday in April. The final reading will feature Jen Harris and Emery Diercks on April 30 at SPARK.
