Salina Poetry Series

Date: April 30, 2019, 7:00 PM
Venue: SPARK Artist Resource Exchange - 146 S. Santa Fe, Salina, Kan.
Sponsor: Salina Public Library, Salina Arts & Humanities

The Event:

The 2019 Salina Poetry Series will conclude with readings from Jen Harris, of Kansas City, and Emery Dierks, of Salina. The poets will read at 7 p.m. April 30 at SPARK Artist Resource Exchange, 146 S. Santa Fe. The reading is free, though donations will be accepted. A reception will follow with refreshments provided by Friends of the Salina Public Library. Harris is a professional public speaker, spoken word poet, activist, published author, founder and former host of Kansas City Poetry Slam. Nationally recognized in the aforementioned, she works as an advocate to incorporate spoken word poetry as a form of peer-based mental health therapy. Diercks is a spoken word artist and writer whose relevant, poignant, and stark work is inspired by everything from parenting to politics. She wrote “this is not a love note” in 2014 and plans to release another collection of her work soon. Diercks has performed across the country, including at Speak Easy Poets in Topeka, Uptown Arts Bar in Kansas City, and in Buffalo, N.Y. Songwriter and guitarist David Snyder, of McPherson, will perform prior to the reading. The Spring Poetry Series is sponsored by Salina Public Library, Salina Arts and Humanities and SPARK Artist Resource Exchange. The series celebrates National Poetry Month with a poet performance every Tuesday in April. For more information, contact Outreach Librarian Lori Berezovsky at (785) 825-4624, ext. 249, or or visit
